When should you go to Alpe d'Huez?
- Winter : From December to April, depending on height. Guaranteed snow thanks to the glacier, record sunshine (300 days/year) and vast skiing areas for all levels. Skiing, snowshoeing, dog-sledding, paragliding or a festive après-ski: it's all here.
- Summer : From June to September, the face of the mountains changes: hiking, mountain biking, climbing, paragliding, high altitude lakes and sporting events (Triathlon, Mégavalanche). L'Alpe d'Huez remains busy throughout the summer.

Before reaching the station, plan your journey: the road is passable all year round, but snow tyres or chains are recommended. compulsory in winter.
A48 / A480 motorway to Grenoble, then RD1091 direction Le Bourg-d'Oisans, and D211 (the famous 21 bends of the Tour de France) to the hamlet.

Coming by train
The train is an excellent way to reach Alpe d'Huez.
This is the nearest and most convenient station for getting to Alpe d'Huez. It is served by Direct TGV and TER trains since Paris (≈3 h), Lyon, Marseille or Lille, as well as regular regional connections. From Altibus shuttles, regional buses and taxis/VTC then climb to the station in about 1 h 15, with extra departures during the winter season.
As a major central station on the SNCF network, it is a major practical alternative for travellers from all over France and abroad (Switzerland, Belgium, Italy). Direct regional trains and coaches run to Grenoble, and then the ascent to Alpe d'Huez can be easily made by connecting.
Ideal for travellers from the south of France (Provence, Occitanie) or the Mediterranean. From this station, there are regional shuttles and buses join Grenoble in around 1 hour 30 minutes, before the final climb to the centre.
From Paris, If you are travelling by car, allow 4 hours by train and 1 hour 15 minutes by coach. Taxis and VTCs provide links to accommodation.
